Online Slots Continue the Tradition

When we think of the old time land casinos, the vision that we picture in our minds is the one-armed bandit. The one-armed bandit was the slot machine that dominated the casino action in the 1950's and 60's. People would save up enough hard-earned cash to travel to one of the famous casino towns around the world to engage in their favorite recreational activity - playing the slots.

The origins of the slot machine are often argued, depending on which coast of the United States you happen to favor. Those on the West Coast attribute the origins of the slot machine to a San Francisco inventor by the name of Charlie Fey. Fey invented a slot machine that he named "The Liberty Bell", which gained popularity in 1887. The Liberty Bell became so popular that manufacturing could not keep up with the worldwide demand for the machine. The Liberty Bell used symbols and consisted of three reels, with the largest payoff on the single pay line.

A few years later, The Sittman and Penn Company in New York City invented a slot machine that used a standard deck of playing cards minus two cards. The reason for this was to reduce the chances of attaining a royal flush. Not to be outdone, Fey responded with his classic "Operator Bell" slot machine. This slot machine, with its fruit emblems, became the prototype for future generations.

Few innovations were added to the slot machine until the Bally Company produced the first electric slots in the 1960's. The 1970's led to the production of slots with micro gaming chips and random number generators (RNG), which made the one-armed bandit obsolete. By the 1980's, all slot machines were powered by computer chips and RNG's determined the outcome of the play.

Today, online slots still represent a large portion of the online gaming business. There are slots online games that replicate those in land casinos and, in many cases, surpass their performance because the graphics are so clear and crisp. Free online slots are played by thousands of people worldwide as a recreational divergence from the economic and general stress they endure on a daily basis. Free slots games can also guide through the nuances of slots play and prepare them for the play-for-pay variety.

When you play slots, you need to determine what game to play and how much to wager. Online slots are often progressive games, so that you have the opportunity of changing your financial picture with one slots play.

Slots online are enjoyed by many on a daily basis, with some of the more popular casino slots being: 8 Ball, Crazy 7's, Alchemist's Lab, Fountain of Youth, and the progressive slots game of Beach Life. The slots have been around since the beginning of casinos, being often credited as the foundation of online gambling. Join the fun of slots NOW! We've come a long way since the one-armed bandit of yesteryear.
